STEPHEN MURRAY
POETRY SLAM
On Monday 6th of October, Stephen Murray visited our school to host a 'Poetry Slam' workshop. Stephen had quite an unusual approach to teaching us about the art of poetry. He really grabbed the attention of everyone through this method, as no one expected him to be so humorous.
Stephen completed different activities with us throughout the day. We began by completing a writing exercise, while being given the opportunity to write what we would do in different scenarios presented to us by Stephen. These scenarios ranged from your husband or wife being taken away from you on your wedding to to your pet hamster being killed right in front of your eyes. Although unrealistic, these varied scenarios had everyone laughing and showed Stephens creative imagination.
At the end of the day, we moved onto a more serious topic, and watched a video about social injustice and bullying, this video was also aimed towards helping people realise how to find you inner creativity and that poetry can be about anything you want. For our final exercise, each student wrote their own poem, by themselves or in pairs, which were then submitted to a website online.
