ANNE HALL
NUTRITIONIST
On Tuesday 9th of January, we had a visit from nutritionist Anne Hall. Anne told us about the basic principals of nutrition, including a varied balanced diet, eating at regular intervals rather than eating in larger amounts once or twice day, she also outlined the importance of the well known rule of eating your 5 a day, and the age old quote 'breakfast is the most important meal of the day'. She explained that breakfast helps to fuel your body for the rest of the day, and you will not be able to perform at your optimum without it. Anne then went on to tell us about the new food pyramid, recently published by the World Health Organisation.
Anne then explained how vital nutrition is during you adolescent years, especially for those who play sport and are physically active. She told us the best types of food we should eat before and after exercising, as well the importance of drinking lots of water every day. Anne went on to talk to us about portion control, based on the size of our dinner plate, and the importance of having as many colours as possible on your plate, for example, meat, potatoes, broccoli, and carrots. She then told us about some of the 'super foods' all of which have great nutritional value, and help to keep your body and immune system healthy.
Overall, I found Anne's talk on nutrition helpful, and I will keep in mind everything she has said to try and enhance my own nutrition and diet.
