DELPHI
On the morning of 20th of September 2017, our TY group left Portumna with bags packed to the brim, and overloaded suitcases with just about enough room for the zips to close. And all this just for a two night trip to Mayo. After a long trip up to Delphi, we took in the beautiful scenery before entering the campus, we were then divided into our activity groups. My group and I set off to do the high ropes, accompanied by Ms Murtagh, which we all found very enjoyable, while the other group went surfing. Later that evening, we entered the 'Grub Hub', ecstatic to dig into a big chicken curry, only to have our expectations shattered as the curry was absolute drivel. Later that evening, we did the tunnel activity before going for an enjoyable walk through the forest with our instructor Kevin, who everyone seemed to take a liking to. This activity was a great excuse for everyone to leave the campus and get some coveted 4G. We arrived back in our dorms to be in bed for 10:30 and had our lights out at 11. This rule was enforced by the ever enthusiastic night guard Donal, who we had a great laugh with.
We were woken at 8 o'clock, again by Donal. We then set off on our 27km walk, feeling extremely tired, but we managed to find the energy from somewhere, and most people actually ended up finding the walk very enjoyable. The views from the top of the mountains really were amazing. After our walk, we returned back to The Wild Atlantic Hostel. This evenings dinner; spaghetti bolognaise, which turned out to be slightly better than the previous nights curry. Although it wasn't great, we weren't going to let some dodgy food ruin our wonderful trip. In the evening, both of the groups came together to sit around the camp fire for our last night in Delphi. Some people played the guitar and sang songs, while others just sat around the warmth of the fire chatting with their friends. We went back to our dorms later, as we were given an extra half hour on our last night.
The next morning, my activity group traveled to the beach for surfing. There was a strong wind out, perfect for catching some waves. Although I managed to fall off my surf board on numerous occasions and fairly hurt myself in the process, I eventually succeeded in standing up on my board, and thought the surfing was very enjoyable. For the final 10 minutes or so, a few of us learned how to body surf in the waves which was extremely interesting. This was our final activity in Delphi and definitely one of the most amusing. We then packed our bags, and set off on our journey back home.
Overall, Delphi was a great trip which everyone loved, and was by far the best part of TY so far.
